The Greater Bay Area 

The Greater Bay Area (GBA) is a cities integrating and connecting region in southern China. The GBA is composed of eleven cities in Guangdong province, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Huizhou, Jiangmen, Zhaoqing, and Zhongshan, as well as the two Special Administrative Regions, Hongkong and Macau. 

The GBA is home for over 70 million people. The Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Greater Bay Area emphasises improving people’s livelihoods and enhancing social well-being. The plan aims to foster closer collaboration and coordination among the cities to promote innovation, high-tech industries, and regional connectivity. Among other objectives, the GBA seeks to develop in three key areas: 

i) a world-class technology and innovation hub, 

ii) a financial centre, and 

iii) an international trading hub.
